Saturday Trade Recap
October 23rd started like most Saturday mornings. But out of nowhere, like a train off the tracks...BOOM. Henry gets horny at an Oregon tailgate, texts the group about his garage sale, and the entire league gets thrown into a tailspin. Trades, trades, and more trades. My favorite part? The fact that Hank made these three massive deals within 20 minutes - at a tailgate nonetheless lol. After a tame start to the season, it was electric to see a flurry of transactions come through so quickly. THIS LEAGUE.
So before we get into the power rankings, what do you say we review the chaos that ensued?
Trade 1
Wednesday 10/13
Bacich Acquires: Miles Sanders (RB), Dallas Goedert (TE), Odell Beckham Jr. (WR)
Kyle Acquires: DeAndre Hopkins (WR)
Bacich makes a move for depth and upside, while Kyle brings home a bonafide WR1. Goedert’s value should improve given Ertz’s departure, but Sanders and OBJ haven’t exactly shown that they’re capable of pulling this team out of the mud.
Winner: Kyle
Trade 2
Friday 10/22
Case Acquires: DeAndre Hopkins (WR), Zach Ertz (TE)
Kyle Acquires: Cordarrelle Patterson (RB), Elijah Mitchell (RB), DeVonta Smith (WR)
Great win-win trade. Kyle almost immediately flips Hop for a hot pair of tailbacks to line up alongside Najee Harris, while also picking up a high-upside flex in DeVonta Smith. Case cuts into his depth quite a bit, but gets a star WR1 in return.
Winner: TBD
Trade 3
Saturday 10/23 @ 11:57 AM
Cole Acquires: Mike Evans (WR)
Henry Acquires: Courtland Sutton (WR), Michael Pittman (WR)
Another win-win. Cole picks up a guy who’s notched 1,000 receiving yards every year he’s been in the league, who’ll now play alongside Cooper Kupp, Keenan Allen, and Kyle Pitts. Gulp. On the other side, Henry flops an oft-volatile star for two up and coming weapons. We’ll have to wait and see what Jerry Jeudy’s return does for Sutton’s stock.
Winner: TBD
Trade 4
Saturday 10/23 @ 12:01 PM
Henry Acquires: Elijah Mitchell (RB), Sam Darnold (QB)
Kyle Acquires: Kyler Murray (QB)
I get it. With a week full of BYE’s and enough injuries to fill up a hospital, startable RB’s can be hard to come by. But I can’t endorse giving up the current NFL MVP front runner at this price. Of course, this trade could look a lot better if/when Henry finds a consistent answer at QB.
Winner: Kyle
Trade 5
Saturday 10/23 @ 12:15 PM
Henry Acquires: Joe Mixon (RB)
Tom Acquires: Christian McCaffrey (RB), Mike Gesicki (TE)
Here’s the big one. No one has been hit harder by injuries, so the acquisition of Joe Mixon for Henry is far from insignificant. But the upside of potentially starting Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey in the same lineup is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Not only that - but Mike Gesicki represents a healthy upgrade at TE over Tyler Higbee.
Winner: Tom
Trade 6
Saturday 10/23 @ 4:45 PM
Kyle Acquires: Myles Gaskin (RB), Brandin Cooks (WR)
Z Acquires: DeVonta Smith (WR), James Conner (RB)
For Kyle’s last act, he picks up a risky yet startable FLEX in Myles Gaskin and a high volume receiver in Brandin Cooks. Z (who’s in the midst of a fantasy dry spell) picks up a high-upside rookie wideout and a surprisingly productive James Conner. For the time being, this trade feels like a wash.
But for those keeping track - Kyle has effectively turned Miles Sanders, OBJ, Zach Ertz, and Dallas Goedert into Kyler Murray, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Brandin Cooks. Job well done. Queue: gentlemanly golf clap.
Winner: TBD
Keep it up, gents! One last thing...
