Power Rankings: Week 5
Before I turn things over to Pete for this week’s Power Rankings, I want to give Kyle another round of applause for filling in so admirably the other week. Mad props, bro!
Enjoy some new gifs. Fresh off the grill!
Alright! Take it away, Pete!
Henry (4-1)
Last Week: 2nd
Wow, just wow. This team took what looked to be a soup-sandwich week and turned it into a defiant W. With absences from Taylor, Saquon, and Richardson, and BYEs, Henry still came out with the win.
Don’t look now, this team is looking to get hard with a Chubb return soon. We will be seeing Chubb back in action sooner rather than later. It’s rare that a fantasy team in a 12-team league scores two, let alone three, three-down pass catching backs - and that’s what Hank did. Anthony Richardson has shown signs of goodness this year, this might be the only chink in Henry’s armor moving forward [let the record show that Tom does not approve of this comment].
Kyle (3-2)
Last Week: 1st
This team has more sex appeal than Sydney Sweeney in a Dr. Squatch ad. With likely the best 3 combo of RBs at the helm, Kyle is on track for big things. Kyle rolled the dice trading for Tyreek, will it pay off? It all depends on when (and in what state) Tua returns to the Dolphins. Kyle’s looking for big things from Tyreek and Deebo moving forward. If they don’t return to former glory, then he may be at risk of falling down the rankings.
Brad (4-1)
Last Week: 6th
It’s time this team got some love. This team is a little rough around the edges but week in and week out they put up points. So far, they’ve been running through competition easier than Hurricane Helene. (Too soon??) - [Tom also doesn’t approve of this “joke”]. Depth may be the things that hurts this team in the long run but for now, let the good times roll, Bradley! It remains to be seen what will happen when this team is nor firing on all cylinders. Brad has set himself on a trajectory that seems destined for the playoffs.
Chet & Mike (3-2)
Last Week: 9th
“Go ahead, name a country that doesn't have two presidents. A boat that sets sail without two captains. Where would be without the popes?” In all seriousness, 172 points is an impressive feat in a full PPR league, let alone half PPR. Make no mistake, this is a good team. They missed the memo in Truckee that Joe Burrow might be a dud with his wrist this year and elected to go with Ja’Marr and Burrow. Looks like it’s paying off and the draft attendees were overly cautious. They may be playing musical chairs with KC running backs, but they have it worked out just fine.
Austin (3-2)
Last Week: 4th
I really like this team. The biggest question marks lingering here are Mixon’s health, and Caleb’s ability to deliver consistent fantasy performances. I feel bad not saying much about this team, but I have no bones to pick with this lineup. Depth may be the biggest problem Austin faces down the stretch here. Expect this team to be contending in the fantasy playoffs come December.
Tom (3-2)
Last Week: 5th
Down goes Nico. A gut wrenching blow to the most promising WR this season. Fear not, depth will not be an issue for Tommy Talks a Lot. Per usual, Tom has stacked this team with a formidable bench. Things are looking promising for Mason until CMC makes his heroic return to a stumbling 9ers team. With a strong corps of RBs, Tom appears poised (once again) to make a push into the playoffs. If this team fails, it will be due to his WR play in Nicos absence.
Pete (3-2)
Last Week: 3rd
Tom, as much as I appreciate a nod in the top 3 last week, let’s not be fooling ourselves. Garth Brooks may have thanked God for unanswered prayers, but Peter is not doing so with this fantasy team. On paper, this starting lineup appears to have no holes in it. Week to week however? Peter is praying he has multiple position players scoring double digits. After back to back weeks failing to score even 90 points, Peter is against the ropes. He may have been punching above his weight weeks 1-3. Peter is losing faith in this team faster than he’s losing his hair.
Ryan (2-3)
Last Week: 7th
On paper this does not look like a 2-3 team. Ryan did the unthinkable and sold off Davante and Tyreek and bolstered his lineup depth. If this team needs help anywhere, it’s at the RB position. Dowdle may prove to be the fix, taking the helm with Zeke taking a back seat. And everybody is on the edge of their seat waiting for the old Josh Jacobs.
One thing is for certain, Brian Thomas Jr. is the real deal. If it were 2021 we’d all be flabbergasted at having both Andrews and Kelce on the same team. Now? Not so much.
Case (2-3)
Last Week: 8th
Put an asterisk next to this team because once CMC and Davante return this will not be a team to be reckoned with. CMC is out until at least week 8, which may push back to week 10 with the 49ers on bye in week 9. This team, when healthy doesn’t have any glaring flaws. With Davante, Waddle and DK in the lineup, you have a super solid WR corps. Jayden Daniels is the truth, no doubt about that. This team is coming out of the depression and looking to drop some bombs like Oppenheimer [tread lightly, Peter].
Bacich (2-3)
Last Week: 10th
This team will not go super far if the woes at running back continue. Mike Evans is an ageless wonder, and it’s only a matter of time until the sun god starts annihilating his opponents. I’d be surprised if we don’t see this team boiling up a trade to bolster their lineup. This team is capable of putting up points, as shown by last weeks stellar performance. For now Bacich has done enough to keep his team in the hunt.
Cole (1-4)
Last Week: 12th
He’s out of the dog house! Cole is waiting for an Etienne performance to justify his draft position. Things are looking up with an AJ Brown return on the horizon. He’s bolstered his lineup with trades this year and is hoping they pay off. This is another team in this league where there does not appear to be any holes. D’Andre swift has redeemed himself after being the least efficient back in weeks 1-3. This is a deep lineup that could threaten the rest of the league in the coming weeks.
Devon (0-5)
Last Week: 11th
This team is more underwater than North Carolina at this point [Peter, that crossed the line]. I hope the salmon run in Alaska has been more fortunate for Devon than this fantasy season. Pre-season this team would have looked like a capable playoff contender. And now you have an underperforming Achane and Rhamondre is in and out of the doghouse. Aiyuk secured his first double digit point game after a massive contract deal, but the outlook for this team is not spectacular.
